Em and I packed the car up and headed off on the 860-mile journey to Boston from Detroit, stopping off at Niagara Falls along the way. The verdict? It's a waterfall. And it's cold.

The state of Michigan is shaped like a left-handed mitt... meaning Em and I travelled from the thumb up to the fingertips, down the ring finger and back across the palm. 860 miles of palm reading!

Back in raining Michigan and after picking up a hire car, Emily and I joined her family for the weekend at Kelly's Island on Lake Erie. Awesome place...

Tomorrow I'm flying back to Detroit and will be spending the weekend out by the Great Lakes - well away from civilisation! (Or so I've been lead to believe) Time to take stock of Florida - this could get random -

It's FLAT, very flat - Legend has it there's two hills in the state - both of them garbage dumps. Stinking hot and it's not even summer yet. At present it's kinda like being in Durban during the height of summer. Odd people abound. Anything goes in Florida, particularly as you head south... South Beach is kooky and Key West even more so. A definite thing about Miami and Fort Lauderdale is that excess wealth doesn't necessarily buy you good taste. I've seen some shocking displays of excess down here! Alligators are everywhere. It's a bit of an eye-opener to visit a shopping mall and see a sign by a normal looking pond saying "Please do not feed the alligators."

So where to from here? Not sure, really.... all I know is that I'm gonna freeze my butt off in Michigan, which is relatively cold in comparison to Florida!

Sunday was the annual Fort Lauderdale AirSea Show to "Salute America's Heroes." Personally I think it was to provide an excuse for thousands of people to stand around in the sun and get hammered...
